HAWAII WOMEN IN HIGHER EDUCATION CONFERENCE
October 12 - 13, 2012 9am – 5pm Location: Pacific Womens College, Honolulu HI 96825 The Hawaii Conference on Women in Higher Education (HCWHE) is a regional conference dedicated to the advancement of research and innovative programs benefitting women in higher education. The HCWHE promotes collaborative excellence between women academics and professionals from Higher Education. The goal of HCWHE is to provide an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various higher education fields with cross-disciplinary interests to bridge the knowledge gap, promote research excellence and innovative program development. The HCWHE invites research papers that encompass innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to higher education; conceptual analysis; design implementation and performance evaluation. CALL FOR PAPERS & PRESENTERS The topics in HCWHE include but are not limited to the following areas: · Who Are the Women in Higher Education? · How Do Women Learn? · Becoming a Leader in Higher Education · Increasing Women Students Graduation and Retention · Attracting Women back to College · Cultural Trends in Womens Education · Entrepreneurship in Womens Higher Education · Teaching teachers how to teach and use parents as partners · Women & e-learning · Teacher Education · Technology in Education · Music Education · Indigenous Education · Higher Education · Home Education · ESL/TESL · E-Society · E-Learning · Leadership · Administration Educational Foundations · Distance Education · Business Education · Art Education · Adult Education · Academic Advising and Counseling · Second life Educators · Education · Educating Enterprising Homemakers PANEL DISCUSSIONS Proposals from those who would like to facilitate a panel discussion are welcomed. The proposals may address any of the topics falling within the scope of the conference themes. Panel Discussions provide an opportunity for public discussion amongst a selected group of panelists. Central to the success of a panel discussion is the choice of a good topic as the focus for discussion and panel lists who bring differing perspectives and are confident in making clear arguments in a live situation. Panels should comprise of three to five scholars who present their arguments; a discussant offers critical comment on the arguments made and the discussion is opened up to the participating audience. The proposal must include: Title Panel Chair(s) (if necessary) Speakers Name, Affiliation and Email Scope Objective and motivation The HCWHE will set aside space for those who wish to pursue discussion of a particular topic or issue. Interested individuals should submit a proposal not more than 400 words, on or before JUNE 30, 2012. In addition, the proposal should indicate the duration of the panel discussion (preferred duration is 45 minutes). All accepted Panel Discussion proposal will be published in the Conference Proceedings. SESSIONS SPEAKERS PARTICIPATION The HCWHE invites speakers to share their knowledge on issues or subject matters of the research work. To be a session speaker, you need to email: 1. Presentation Title 2. Scope (300 words) 3. Objective and Motivation (200 words) 4. Name, Affiliation and Email If you are interested in giving a talk without submitting a paper, please email your proposal to HCWHE@pacificwomenscollege.org. The proposal will be reviewed by the Steering Committees. After acceptance, you will receive a feedback on any modification required. All accepted proposals will be published in the proceedings. NOTES The panel discussion members and session speakers are responsible for meeting the costs of their registration, travel and accommodation. All the accepted papers will appear in the proceedings and modified version of selected papers will be published in a special HCWHE conference journal. REGISTRATION & FEE PLAN In order to ensure that monies are applied towards the correct participant, please note your full name on all payments, documents and correspondence. Non-Refundable Registration Fee: $179 USD $49 USD discount for paid registration fee received on or before August 30, 2012*. This will apply towards both an invitation for attendance as well as issuance of the letter of acceptance for submitted and approved abstracts for presentation. Abstract is subject to approval. *Non-refundable fee must be received by the early bird deadline of August 30, 2012 to receive the $49 discount, this includes completion of wires and bank transfers by this date. **Please note that wire transfers may take up to 2-3 weeks to clear. Participant will be notified immediately once monies have been applied. All attendees, including paper presenters, speakers, panel conference participants, and session chairs must register and pay the registration fees. ACCOMMODATIONS Conference attendees may use any hotel in Waikiki, Honolulu, on the island of O`ahu. Excellent rates are available through www.hotwire.com or contact the hotel directly for reservations for those coming from off island. Please allow extra time when driving to the conference as traffic can sometimes be an issue on our island. The committee will try and find special conference rates for attendees and post them on the Pacific Womens College website as they become available.
